"Water is here! Water is here!" On the afternoon of December 15, 2023, at 3:00 pm, the water source extracted from the Diaodong Reservoir in Danzhai County climbed onto the high-level water tank and flowed into the main water supply pipeline. After a 20 hour "pipeline journey," it finally gushed out and crashed into the Wuba River Reservoir. The villagers on site cheered excitedly.
Over a period of 45 days, multiple departments in Qiandongnan Prefecture and Danzhai County worked together, and 48000 people were able to quench their thirst. This "water diversion into the city" action accelerated the process of serving the people. Danzhai County is located at the watershed between the Pearl River and the Yangtze River, with uneven spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall and weak water conservation capacity.
Starting from June 2022, the rainfall in the county was relatively low, and from January to November 2023, the cumulative precipitation in the urban area reached the lowest value since 1961. According to the reports from townships and on-site investigations, it has been verified that there are 32 locations with water shortage issues. "We have included the 16 points with more severe situations in the problem list, and the 16 points with less severe situations in the general ledger," said Wang Yuanwen, Deputy Director of the County Water Bureau.
In order to solve the increasingly tight water supply problem, in the first half of 2023, the county will gradually activate all small reservoirs, machine wells and other water storage sources around the urban area, and find ways to maintain the daily water demand of 12000 cubic meters in the county. Regarding rural water use, the deputy department level leaders of the county water bureau led a team to conduct a large-scale monthly centralized investigation, walking along the topographic map to search for mountain spring water, winding ditch water, etc. From January 2023 to the end of the year, 9 wells were successfully drilled and 15 mountain springs were extracted using pumping stations. A new 82 kilometer pipeline network was constructed, temporarily alleviating the rural water supply problem.
In September 2023, there was still no continuous rainfall replenishment in Danzhai County. After continuously draining the drinking water sources of Quanshan Reservoir, Wubahe Reservoir, and Liujiaqiao Reservoir, the daily water supply in the county decreased to less than 8000 cubic meters. 48000 residents and 200 enterprises in the urban area began to supply water in different periods.

Water urgently needed! In the second batch of themed education, Qiandongnan Prefecture and Danzhai County will make it a top priority to fully solve the water difficulties faced by residents and enterprises. The main leaders of the state party committee and government took command and held five meetings in Danzhai, convening four meetings with seven departments including the County Water Affairs Bureau, County Finance Bureau, and County Agriculture and Rural Bureau to listen to the progress of the emergency water supply source guarantee project in Danzhai County's urban area and guide and promote the resolution of problems.
Danzhai County is located at the watershed between the upper reaches of the Qingshui River and the Duliu River, with high terrain and few water sources, making it difficult to find groundwater. But in Xingren Village, Xingren Town, 20 kilometers north of Danzhai County, there is a Diaodong Reservoir located in the upper reaches of the Qingshui River that has not yet been put into use. It is a comprehensive medium-sized water conservancy project built by the county to ensure water supply for Danzhai Town, mainly for urban water supply and irrigation, and also for industrial use. It has a storage capacity of 22 million cubic meters, which is about four times the total capacity of Quanshan Reservoir and Wubahe Reservoir.

After investigation and calculation, the use of the Diaodong Reservoir is expected to solve the drinking water crisis in Danzhai County.
After communicating with the construction owner unit of the Diaodong Reservoir - a subsidiary engineering company of the Provincial Water Investment Group, on October 18, 2023, Du Feng, the chief engineer of the Provincial Water Investment Group, led a team to conduct an on-site investigation and agreed to advance funds to build a new pipeline to lift water from the tea burning industrial park section of the Diaodong Reservoir area to the high-level regulating pool, and implement the "water transfer" project.
On October 24, 2023, construction began. More than 20 sets of machinery, including excavators, cranes, transportation vehicles, concrete pump trucks, and generator sets, with a construction team of more than 100 people, 9 excavators, and 4 loaders operating at full power, are used to cut through mountains, open ditches, and dig channels. The construction work takes turns 24 hours a day, striving to meet the construction deadline and ensure water supply. The special meeting of the Danzhai County Committee to listen to the report on water supply guarantee work has been adjusted from once a month to once a week, and then to once a day. On the evening of December 14th, a total investment of 14 million yuan, with a total length of 3740 meters, including the installation of 2.8 kilometers of coated steel pipes, a 100 cubic meter high-level water tank, a water intake floating platform, and two 520 kilowatt units, successfully completed the "water transfer" project.
The assault team raced against time, fighting day and night for 1080 hours in the low-lying wetland Grand Canyon, installing pipelines with a length of 3.8 kilometers and a lift of 220 meters. With the power supply of the water intake pump unit, the Diaodong Reservoir water diversion project was officially put into use, and the water flow smoothly passed through the main water pipeline and was successfully transported to the Wuba River Reservoir. At this point, the depleted reservoir has sufficient water sources to replenish.
"Time is tight and tasks are heavy. If things are done well, all the efforts are worth it," said the cadre involved in the water diversion work.
Watching the water flow in the pipe increase from small to large, making a loud noise, the hearts of the masses became more secure.
